I covered Hurricanes Irma and Maria across the Caribbean and Florida, arriving in Puerto Rico with the U.S. Air Force one day after Maria and reaching the Florida Keys as soon as roads reopened to residents. I was also in the Bahamas ahead of Irma, documenting both storm preparation and the calm moments of people relaxing in bars before impact. In Puerto Rico and the Keys, I found communities facing total loss in the earliest hours.
