Hurricane Dorian
I reached the Bahamas as quickly as access allowed after Hurricane Dorian stalled over the islands for nearly 24 hours, producing some of the worst devastation I’ve documented. Entire communities were in total loss, while storm surge reached an estimated 30 feet in places, covering parts of the island across. A major oil facility burst. One of the primary farms lost nearly all its animals, and multiple structures on nearly every block still held victims inside. I joined cadaver‑dog teams during search operations and made several return trips while covering the aftermath for AFP and the Daily Mail.
